Welcome to the website of the African Center for Prevention and Resolution of Conflicts (ACPRC). This website presents a broad cross-section of ACPRC’s activities in pursuit of our mission to resolve global conflicts in Africa and crises through policy research and development. On these pages you will find our latest news, activities and learn about specific programs, as well as recent meetings and events.
The ACPRC is a UK-based nonprofit organization that work toward promoting Peace in Africa.
The activity of the ACPRC is both of an operational and “tributian” nature, and its mode of action is to contribute to ease crises and many armed conflicts, in conflict-prone zones such as the African continent, (in particular in the sub-Saharan area), with the emergence especially since the end of the bipolar order, of a new nomenclature of belligerency: the intra-state conflicts.
It's hardly news that conflicts has hampered Africa's development. Since 1990, conflicts has cost Africa almost $300 billion, according to an UN report. This is an average of $18 billion per year or 15 percent of GDP. It's also equal to the total amount given in aid to Africa by major international donors over the same period. As the report explains, while the destruction of lives, property, infrastructure in conflicts is expensive, the real damage is in opportunity costs.
Since 2006, over 10 million people have been displaced by war in Africa.
Economic activity falters or grinds to a halt. Income from valuable natural resources ends up lining individual pockets rather than benefiting the country. The country suffers from inflation, debt, and reduced investment, while people suffer from unemployment, lack of public services, and trauma. More people, especially women and children, die from the fall-out of conflict than die in conflict itself
Donors all over the world are the ones that can make a difference. Through ACPRC, you will be able to select specific projects that you’d like to support, donate to them and stay involved with your project through frequent updates and feedback from the field.
